Job Description/ Responsibilities:

 

The preferred candidate:

  • Deals with the packaging materials of the company’s complete portfolio. Is responsible for the development of packaging of global new product launches and the maintenance and/or improvement of current packaging, as well as the development of promotional packaging and gives instructions to the subcontractors for proper production of promotional packs

  • Investigates new packaging solutions, materials, processes and developments to provide eco-efficient, sustainable, innovative and cost-effective packaging concepts and solutions

  • Explores any possibility of improving the current packaging, by optimizing the respective elements with respect to cost, machinability, design and sustainability

  • Actively interfaces with Global Marketing, R&D, Quality Control, Supply Chain and Production departments in the conceptualization phase and assumes responsibility for the successful execution of final package direction in the implementation phase

  • Plays an active role in determining the feasibility of new projects as they relate to cost, timing, sustainability and manufacturability

  • Supports the development, preparation and maintenance of packaging designs including technical specifications and construction drawings. Initiates samples and preliminary costing

  • Ensures necessary engineering and technical approval of selected component, including material compatibility, dispensing characteristics and machinability in collaboration with Product managers, R&D and Production department. When required, initiates and follows up the required upgrades on the packaging lines in the Production

  • Acts as liaison between Global Marketing, Quality Control, Procurement and Packaging Line Engineers teams on all specification and component related issues. Provides trouble shooting support in case of package non-compliance, in collaboration with the respective supplier

  • Sets up the final approved technical characteristics of any new packaging material, based on the results of compatibility, machinability and integrity tests. Organises pilot packaging productions

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering, Packaging Technology, or Material Science

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in packaging development, preferable in the FMCG. Cosmetic industry experience will be considered an asset

  • Solid business understanding and/or experience from the packaging industry (especially materials knowledge and process/production understanding) are definite advantages

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work with diverse cultures and regional/global colleagues

  • Attention to detail

  • Self-motivated, team player with analytical and problem-solving skills
